View from a Diner on the Sea to Sky High way

The Sea to Sky or Route 99 connects Vancouver to Whistler.

This photo was taken on September 4, 2005.  My 30th birthday.  A dear neighbour took me out for the day and we ended up going to Squamish and stopping at this diner on our way back.  This is the view from our table to the outside.  I had stopped at this diner once before almost 6 years prior.

I recently went back to the wonderful world of the 99.  The diner is now gone.   Sorry folks.  But there is a Starbucks in Squamish now – so you can get your coffee refill prior to hitting Whistler –thank god!

Cupcakes – In English Bay, Vancouver

Alright don’t tell me you don’t like cupcakes!  They’ve made a come back.  I use to live in this neighbourhood – and let me tell you it is convenient to be able to grab a mini-cupcake for a $1.00 or when feeling the need for sugar a regular cupcake for close to $3.00.  Cupcakes also make cakes for any occasion.  Their business has been doing very well.  You can find this wonderful masterpiece of delicious delights on Denman Street in English Bay.  The other thing that I absolutely love is the use of fun names for their cakes such as the Diva Cupcake.

Oh and in case you were worried about what you would wash down with that beautiful sweet treat....there's a starbucks one block down on each side of the shop! ;-)  Oh you green green symbol of energy and alertness.

English Bay, Vancouver

After grabbing the cupcake and coffee head down to watch the water.  This is one of my favorite places in the world this beach right here.  I have watched so many sunrises and sunsets from this beach.   This beach has been the place where I have sat and contemplated life; love; education; career.  Basically, it is the one place in the world where I find peace.

Looking to the North from Gastown, Vancouver

This is the view from Gastown Vancouver to the North Shore, behind me is the Harbour Centre.  This is a very weird little place.  Gastown has so much history.  The beauty which surrounds it is amazing.  Yet a few blocks away is the infamous “freakshow” of drugs and poverty, also known as Main & Hastings.  For the most part although this area is fairly close, you still feel very safe.  To the left are the offices of the Vancouver Sun and Electronic Arts.

Shop in Gastown, Vancouver

This is one of the many shops in Gastown.  I really love this one however.  Canada has had a long history with their Aboriginal peoples.  This shop shows the arts and customs of the Aboriginal peoples.  If you have a chance take a visit and go upstairs.  If you’re lucky someone will be doing a carving upstairs!(oh Starbucks is just down the street by the Gas clock).

Whistler

As I stated earlier, the 99 is the Sea to Sky Highway connecting the chaos of the city of Vancouver to the beauty and surreal experience of nature in the mountains.  Whistler, one of the

worlds most famous ski resorts has an abundance of things to do.  Personally, I like to just go up here and chill.  When you're passing your way through Squamish (and pick up your second coffee) check out the face of the mountain (to your right if you're driving up)- you may see some of those rock climbing daredevils!
